Blazing Wave, Jacquelyn Block

Today I wasn’t sure what I was going to paint when I started, but my mind must have been thinking of the wildfires in Oregon. Last summer our sky was hazy and you could smell the smoke and fumes from the Canadian wildfires. They were quite a ways away, so what we experienced was nothing compared to the people living closer. While we are certainly not completely immune to the changing weather, I feel fortunate that Michigan seems to have it mild compared to the rest of the world.

I can’t understand how some people can deny the impact human activities are having on the earth. Mother Nature has her ways of resetting herself. If we are not proactive in fixing our mess, I’m afraid of how she will.

How have you been experiencing the changing climate in your area?

Well, I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and I can tell you that we had a few smoky days in the city. It wasn’t nice at all. This year promised to be just as terrible (the fire seasons started at the end of April), until it started raining. We had one of the rainiest Springs on record. June has not been much better. Last winter was so warm that some bird species didn’t even migrate!

So I agree with you. Denying the impact we have had on the planet is awful.

    Your painting is beautiful!

You are right. Our Robins are no longer a sign of spring here. They are quite prolific even though the winter now.
