Sky Anemone, Jacquelyn Block

As I sat down to paint this evening I was serenaded by the booms of fireworks all around me. Today was another bad breathing day for me so I listened to the booms, some loud and close enough to rattle my windows. While I listened, I was imagining what they looked like and decided to paint what I was seeing in my mind’s eye.

The usual evening sounds like birds and crickets are drowned out by music and fireworks. I miss hearing the usual summer symphony, but it will return next week I’m sure. Just some small fountains and sparkles were not cheap, so I can’t imagine how much money my neighbors are spending on these big mortars. A couple little fountains and a sparkler are more than fine for me.

What sounds are you listening to at night?
