Today I spent much of my art time deciding which of my pieces inspired by famous artist I would enter in the ‘My Masterpiece’ show at the GPAA. When I finished making sure I had good photographs for my online submission, I looked at the time and realized how late it was getting. So I set up my art space and gathered my supplies and thoughts, ultimately deciding on making an abstract watercolor and ink. I grabbed a pigma pen and started doodling some lines. When I put the pen down I could see a landscapiness to it. I painted over the ink drawing with that landscape idea floating around. I went back and added some variety and texture in the larger spaces and when my paper curled up on me I decided to quit before I got too frustrated.

It works upside down too, more of a sea view of land. I kinda like it. It’s fun to play around sometimes. Maybe tomorrow I go over it with some acrylic markers or some gouache to add more layers. We will see when it’s dry. It’s pretty vibrant while wet.

Here are the pieces I decided to submit for the show.

I have a cubist self portrait inspired by Picasso, a molded clay face inspired by Marisol Escobar, a landscape inspired by O’Keeffe, a self portrait with skull inspired by Andy Warhol, irises watercolor inspired by Van Gogh, and finally my Unity sculpture which was inspired by Charles McGee. A full half of my entries are watercolors. And four are self portraits or family portraits.

What do you think of my selections; will they help inspire your next project?
