Heron’s Flight, Jacquelyn Block

Today I submitted my entry for the Michigan Annual show at Anton Art Center. I took some new photographs of it, but it is hard to capture it fully in two dimensions. I took pictures from different angles hoping to give a better idea of how it cooled out of the wall plane. I also submitted the mixed media clown I did based off the poem I wrote. They are both pieces I am proud of, but you never know what will stand out to the juror. I submitted both the painting and poem together, so maybe it’ll be different enough to catch the judge’s eye.

I have several more deadlines approaching in the days and weeks to come.

As for my new goal of writing, I spent some time this afternoon working on a poem. I was inspired to write a poem from one of the photographs I was considering for the Sky and Space show. I took the photo as we were bringing my mom’s boat to the marina to be stored for the winter. It was a beautiful still morning, and the puffy clouds and blue sky reflected beautifully off the canal’s calm water.
